The rules of a fantasy football league dictate the actions of the team owners, from how to draft
a team, to when and how trades are allowed, to how points are scored and tracked. These rules are
normally always set before the season begins, but it is possible to have a rule change made in
the middle of the season if, for example, all team owners approve it.
Every individual league can define its own set of rules, so be sure to check the details when
joining one, as even similar keeper leagues may handle certain instances, for example, signing
of free agents in mid-season, differently.
Some of the topics covered in an average set of rules are finances, specifying fees for joining
the league, lineups and roster requirements, specifying the minimum number of players required at
each position, ranking and the scoring system, specifying how many points are scored under what
circumstances, and deadlines, specifying when lineups must be set, and how far long the season
to allow for trades and other signings.
